One of the best ways to showcase something on an International scene is to be able to master what is local. Hence, the title of this blog is GloCal - a synergy of Global expertise that greatly affects the Local context of the study.
I have considered the use of International Building Code or herein known as IBC. It is the foundation of the complete Family of International Codes. It is an essential tool to preserve public health and safety that provides safeguards from hazards associated with the built environment. It addresses design and installation of innovative materials that meet or exceed public health and safety goals. (International Building Code, 2020)
Having a development that has international standards shows its competitiveness in a global scale. It proves that it can accommodate foreign quality even on a local context. Going back, this IBC has various benefits for its patrons;
1. The principles of this model code are based on protection of public health, safety and welfare.
2. This code results in efficient designs that provide flexibility for the code official, designer, engineer and architect.
3. Provisions of the code encourage the use of new and smarter technological advances.
4. This code emphasizes both prescriptive and engineered solutions and allows the use of time-tested methods.
5. This code references nationally developed consensus standards.
These data came from the International Building Code itself. Hence, I was also able to apply these considerations on my thesis, that widely reflects my Site Development Plan, as well as the floor plans. The way on how the roofs were designed also gets its system and technology on foreign systems - Parametric Design.
In conclusion, the use of not just International Building Code, but also other Internationally acclaimed technologies will highly push the technological and standard advancements of the project’s design and planning.
