First, maraming salamat sa pagkakataong ma-feature niyo ako rito dahil big fan ako ng artists niyo ever since! Going back, ako nga pala si Kenjay Reyes, a 19-year old self-taught artist from the Cavite, Philippines who's currently taking-up an Architecture degree sa Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Sa umpisa pa lamang, nakahiligan ko na ang Arts sa murang edad, maybe elementary days pa noong una kong sali sa mga art competitions and napapansin kong napapdalas ang attendance ko sa mga iyon sa pagdaan ng mga taon; minsa'y nananalo at kadalasan din nama'y natatalo but for me it's a matter of experience and enjoyment na rin kaya siguro ako nagtagal sa field na iyon. Years passed, at mas nakilala ko pa ang sining on a broader meaning; Editorial Cartooning, Painting, Digital Arts, Portraiture at marami pang iba hanggang sa mas maraming tao na rin ang nakikilala at tinatangkilik ko na sana someday, maging katulad ko sila; iniidolo, hinahangaan at maaaring may point na dahil sa sikat sila. I could tell na, hindi pala iyong mga bagay na 'yon ang meaning at purpose ng sining; it's a matter of learning and sharing your passion to everyone and a matter of inspiring one's life to pursue his/her talent to a better place. Para sa'kin, iyon siguro ang pinaka-objective ng arts on this generation.
Sa ngayon, "Doodle Art" ang nakahihiligan kong form ng sining, na na-incorporate ko rin ang kaalaman ko sa portraiture para makabuo ng ibang approach sa nasabing genre, dahil siguro sa madali at malaya mong maie-express ang nararamdaman at naiisip mo sa simpleng paglapat ng lapis mo sa papel at dahil na rin sa imagination ang pangunahing puhunan mo sa pagguhit ng mga detalye. Inaamin kong napakalaking tulong ng passion kong ito when it comes to my personal and educational matters dahil sa malaking bagay ito sa pagbuild ng personality and career ko as an artist and as a student.
“Advice? Generally, I could tell you that it's a combination of humility, dedication and passion. There are some artists na may talento ngunit nahihiyang i-showcase ito sa public, maaaring nahihiya o natatakot na masabihan ng negative but always have a mode of thinking na those are words of improvement and constructive criticisms for a better version of you and your works and no one will lift you up but yourself. So, stand up, get those pencils and show everyone your talent. 📷🙂”
